Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently gave an exclusive interview to news agency ANI. In the interview, PM Modi spoke about a range of issues including several related to the technology industry. Prime Minister Modi said that he strongly believes that investment from across the globe is welcome but the products should have the essence of the country’s soil and its citizens should be engaged in the manufacturing process.
Talking about electronics manufacturing in India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “We want people to invest in capital. We want the youth of our country to get employment. I do not agree with this. that my country’s wheat should be exported and we should buy bread from abroad. I will not do that. Whatever I do, I will do it in my country. I will do it for the benefit of my country. And I also make policies for this. I make it with courage. And people are trusting me.”
Citing names of technology giants, PM said, “You can see the example of Google, Samsung came here. Apple came here in a very large quantity. In Vadodara, work started for the manufacturing of the aircraft. For the semiconductor industry, a very good statement from the leader of Taiwan has also come. That means we are in every field. We want people to transfer technology.”
PM Modi: I want investment to come in India
PM Modi also spoke about how India has one of the cheapest mobile data rates in the world, while acknowledging that it is also a financial loss to some extent but the benefits of affordable data go far beyond. These include online learning, telemedicine and lots more.
“Today, mobile data is so cheap in the country. I know that there is a financial loss to my country. But, the result of cheap data is that I have given strength to my youths to bring digital revolution in the country. Today, I just met the gamers. They say, sir, we go to play in the countries of the world. Data is so expensive there. We have so many opportunities for us in India. Education. Today, because the data is cheap, how much benefit should it have? Long distance learning. Yes, in everything. In telemedicine,” PM said.
“I want investment to come in India because in India, it doesn’t matter who has invested money, (but) the sweat put into the work must be of our own people. The product should have the essence of our soil, so that our youth in the country will get employment opportunities,” PM Modi said, to a question on Elon Musk’s Tesla and Starlink’s possible entry into India.
